igor-intro.jpg (15161 bytes)Hello, and welcome from Belgorod, Russia! Through the miracle of modern electronics, I am allowed to talk to you. I wanted to make use of this wonderful new media that before would have been an impossible dream.

Perhaps, some of us have already met over the airways as radio amateurs. Previously I used the call sign UA3ZNW and UZ3ZK in my radio operations. Now I use the call sign RK3ZK

I live in the city of Belgorod in Russia, which is approximately 500 kilometers southwest from Moscow. I was born in this city, and have spent the majority of my life in it.

I received my higher education at the Kharkov University of Radioelectronic located in Kharkov, also known as the "city of students".

Following my graduation from the University, I worked in organizations where I could most effectively use the academic knowledge gained and continue to improve my skills. Working as a radio engineer, I assembled, tested and tuned hundreds of antennas. In my employment, I have also repaired and maintained hundreds of different transmitters and receiving equipment. As time went by, I found that I enjoyed sharing my learning experiences with my radio-amateur friends and co-workers. Soon I began to publish articles from what I learned about antennas and equipment engineering. Later these articles developed into one book, then another and so on.

Now, I have before you my first book published in the USA in the English language and it is accessible to one and all in the English-speaking World. This book is devoted to urban antennas. I think in this twenty-first century it will be one of the most interesting radio amateur subjects for antenna engineering. The majority of the radio amateurs now live in metropolitan areas where it is impossible to use a full-size antennas. But, as I have learned and now show from my own experiences, even in urban conditions of very restricted places it is quite possible to install and operate successfully from small compact or substitute antenna installations. In this book are presented more than one hundred different amateur antennas suitable for installation and operation in urban conditions.

Soon, other books of mine will follow, including a second volume and companion to this first volume of Urban Antennas. My publisher in the USA, Jack Stone of antenneX and Franklin-Belle Publishing is coordinating the efforts of technical editors on several more of my books, which include two volumes of book devoted to adjusting, tuning and installation of antennas under urban conditions. Once again in this connection I want to express my deepest gratitude to those American radio amateurs editors who worked diligently to "Americanize" the English translation of the text of Urban Antennas book and others to follow.

Last, I want to share with you my dream for the future. We live with you in this twenty-first century, a century in which the mankind makes its effort to master space and travel to the space station, the moon and other planets. Probably, it will take a very long time before we see inhabitation of the moon or planets, but my dream is that I will live to see the day that I may see the book "Amateur Moon antennas" or "Amateur Mars antennas", which very well may be written by any one of the young readers of this very book. I wish to him success in doing it!

My thanks for listening and I wish you every success in your antenna constructions! -30-
